The virtual walk-through of the concept design was a huge hit. While the Waitohi Picton Ferry Terminal Redevelopment project is in the early stages of site preparation and design, it's estimated that over the next two years Waitohi Picton will see 200 more people working in the community. Opportunity was a big topic of discussion at the recent information evening at Port Marlborough Pavilion, attended by around 70 local business people. It was a chance to ask questions and get a conversation started about where some of the possibilities might lie iRex Programme Manager Stephen O'Keefe agrees the project is a big investment, a big deal, and the team is committed to working with local people to identify and share those benefits. "People are naturally interested in procurement. There is a formal process to follow for procurement, and one of the things we've done is invite businesses to be part of a services" database that we'll share with the contractors once they are on board. As part of our sustainability promise, procurement documents also encourage and measure contractors against their commitment to engaging local businesses and service providers. "We're also looking to work with others on ideas for the longer game, like lifting profile and sharing our love for Waitohi Picton as an exciting place to visit and spend time," Mr O'Keefe said The meeting was a collaborative affair, with input from all the partners. Chair for Te Atiawa o Te Waka-a-Maul Rachael Hate, opened and spoke about shared values and the opportunity for future generations.
