On a Saturday morning the whole family can find something to suit. Preschool and junior school children can start their musical journey by joining in our "Take Off with Music" classes while older children and adults may opt for lessons on a specific instrument (including voice). Those who already play are welcome to join in one of the great ensembles which all take part in regular concerts. Age is no limit - our Late Starters programme provides the opportunity for adults to learn an instrument and join an ensemble with other like-minded adults. START THEM ON RECORDER FOR JUST $52 A YEAR!! At the Christchurch School of Music our recorder classes don't just teach recorder - we give the children a strong foundation in music theory, aural training and rhythm through fun and engaging lessons. The challenges we have all faced in 2020 have proved to us here at the Christchurch School of Music, just how important music is to our well-being, a sense of purpose and an opportunity to communicate and collaborate with others to create something very special. For just $52.00 a year your child will receive a weekly group lesson from excellent tutors, a good quality recorder and a tutor book It was wonderful for us to see the excitement and enthusiasm of our students on the first day back at rehearsals as soon as we came out of Level 2. "I didn't realise how much I loved orchestra until we went into lockdown and I missed it so much" Comments like this were very common on the first day back. We may have had to sanitise our hands, sit socially distanced from our friends in the ensemble, spray our chairs and stands between groups but it was all worth it just to have the chance to make music again. Playing an instrument has many benefits and can bring a great deal of joy to the performer and the listener. Studies continue to prove that participating in musical activities has many positive effects on the brain as well as a student's health and well-being.
