Married to Anne with two adult daughters, Tim Macindoe has been MP for Hamilton West since November 2008, and served as Minister of Customs, Associate Minister of Transport, and Associate Minister of Education in the National-led Government of Prime Minister Bill English in 2017. Tim defeated the incumbent Labour MP for Hamilton West in 2008 and was re-elected in 2011, 2014, and 2017, increasing his majority on each occasion. During his years in Parliament, Tim has served on numerous Select Committees, including periods as Deputy Chair of the Regulations Review Committee, Chair of the Justice and Electoral Committee, and Deputy Chair of the Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committee. He was appointed Junior Government Whip in January 2013. Following the 2014 election, Tim was chosen by his colleagues to be the Senior Government Whip, and served in that capacity until his appointment as a Minister of the Crown in May 2017. Since the change of government, Tim has been National's ACC Spokesperson, and more recently Spokesperson for Seniors, Civil Defence and Skills and Employment, also serving for a period as Shadow Attorney-General. Tim and Anne live in the Hamilton West electorate. Anne has worked as a business assistant for several Hamilton companies, and is currently working for St John. Prior to his election, Tim was the Chief Executive of Arts Waikato, where he was principally responsible for the trust’s business and staff management, fundraising and reporting. From 1996 – 2002 Tim was Deputy Principal of St. Peter’s School, Cambridge. He has also worked in public service, marketing, retail, agriculture, and as a prison tutor. Tim completed his first degree, a BA (Hons) majoring in History, at Otago University. Early in 2009 he completed his second degree, an LL.B, at the University of Waikato. Tim is an energetic electorate MP who is actively involved in his diverse local community. He served on the boards of two local schools and was subsequently Chairman of Waikato Diocesan School’s PTA for four years. He served for nearly five years as a trustee of Free FM, the Waikato region’s Access Radio station, and he was a member of the civic committee that organised the celebrations of Hamilton City’s 150th anniversary in 2014. He formerly chaired the Waikato/Bay of Plenty Regional Orchestra Steering Committee and was an inaugural member of the Orchestra Central Trust, on which he still serves. He is a member of many other organisations including the Waikato Chamber of Commerce. He served on the steering committee that led to the establishment of Sistema Waikato. Prior to his election he served on the Melville Community Action Group. He is Patron of the Epilepsy Waikato Charitable Trust, Vice-President of Hamilton Citizens’ Band Society Inc., and an active supporter of Hamilton’s numerous ethnic organisations, and he works closely with a large number of local charities to assist with their fundraising, advocacy and other needs (even having his hair dyed blue in a successful fundraiser for the Hamilton Hydrotherapy Pool Trust project in 2008!) He has undertaken several lay ministry roles in the Anglican Church and is currently the host MP for Prayer @ Parliament. His leisure activities include tramping and fishing, and he is a keen follower of cricket, rugby and the performing arts.
