It's not just bragging rights on the line, there are prizes and vouchers up for grabs. Whether you ride all the time or haven't ridden in years, the Challenge is for you. You and your workplace team earn points for every kilometre you ride. every day you ride, and for every person you encourage to sign-up (they don't have to be in your team - they just have to log a ride in the Aotearoa Bike Challenge). You'll compete against other workplace teams of comparable sizes. Ride anywhere, anytime for just 10 minutes to participate. You've got all of February to get out and earn points! Applications of up to $15 000 are now being accepted for the latest Kick Start round which closes on Tuesday 31 March 2020. We are fortunate in our district to have not only a wealth of natural resources to enjoy - cycle, walking and running tracks, parks and reserves and the lake - but also the opportunity to host a variety of events. The Tuwharetoa Maori Trust Board IronMaori Taupo nui-a-Tia event will be held on Saturday 21 March. As an entry level event for beginners or for those getting back into exercise the IronMaori event is a great introduction to swimming, cycling and running/walking events. Participating either as an individual or a team gives everyone the chance to compete at their own level. 8.30am Tamariki (5-12 years old): 100m swim, 1km run either in a team of two or as an individual. 9.00am Rangatahi (13-17 years): 300m swim, 10km cycle, 2km run either in a team of three or as an individual. 9.00am Matua (18+ years): as an individual -600m swim, 20km cycle, Skm run, or in a team - Long 600m swim, 20km cycle, 5km run or Short 300m swim, 20km cycle, 5km run. Water is the best drink for us, so always keep water with you. If you don't enjoy drinking water, flavour it with some slices of fruit, or herbs such as mint. The Taupo Community Gym is back up and running after a month off, with gym times 9.00am-11.00am Monday. Wednesday and Friday for only a gold coin donation. The seniors' class has also started up again every Monday and Thursday from 10:30am.
