HE ARA TMATA CREATING GREAT PLACES Supporting our people The Far North District Council is not directly involved in sports or the management of sports teams, but we are heavily involved in delivering sports infrastructure across the district. There has been a boom in new recreational and OUR SPORTS FACILITY PROJECTS Te Hiku Ward The community-led Te Hiku Sports Hub Aquatic and Sports Facility Project will be transformational for the Kaitaia community when completed early in 2023. The facility includes a 25-metre pool a learn to swim pool a hydrotherapy pool and a toddlers water play area. The sports wing will include a gym, function rooms and changing rooms for sports fields. The council is a significant stakeholder in the project. Two competition-grade pump tracks completed last summer proved an instant hit with Far North tamariki. The tracks at Memorial Park in Kaitaia and Korora Park in Ahipara are part of the ongoing Te Hiku Open Spaces Revitalisation Project, funded by Kanoa, the Government's Regional Economic Development & Investment Unit Kaikohe-Hokianga Ward sports facilities in the district recently. This includes construction of sports hubs in each of our three wards. Below are just some of the great recreational facilities recently opened or under construction near you. Bay of Islands-Whangaroa Ward Stage 1 work to build multisportfels changing facilities and car parking at Te Pulwatanga-Bay of Islands Sports Hub will commence shortly after resource consent was confirmed last month. The consent application was publicly notified in February, and submissions closed on 9 March The council has been working with the Project Working Group on the hub's development since October 2020. It includes sporting code representatives, councillors and council staff. A new entrance has been built to the 46.77 hectare site from 10. Kaitaia Far North Te Kaunihero Tol Tokerau ki te Raki June 2022 Ahipara The community board has granted $20,000 towards the Kalkohe Rugby and Football Club for architecture designs to start an upgrade for the dub. The work will provide a modern facility that community members can use to host events. The upgrades will also allow them to host premiere events such as the Super Rugby preseason matches. It is part of the $3 million, government-funded Kerikeri Domain Revitalisation project that has already added a new skate park and basketball court to the domain. The new play area and will include a flying fox swings, slides, tunnels, climbing wait towers and shade sals Kerikeri Waipapa Kaikohe A $12.7 million upgrade to Lindvart Park will turn existing sports fields, courts, and pavilion into a premier facility.
