Northpower Latest news & updates from around our Network Summer Safety tips: Wairoa River Crossing Be safe with kites and drones After the existing 1960's 11kV Submarine cable crossing the Northern Wairoa River faulted, Northpower quickly needed a practical, innovative solution to ensure reliability of supply for the Dargaville and Ruawai areas. Keep children safe this summer - by ensuring kites and drones are only flown in clear spaces - well clear of powerlines, power poles and substations. Our project team installed a new plastic ducting system across the bridge that met the seismic, thermal and vibration requirements detailed by NZTA. We're really proud of the applied innovation and once the ducting was in place the Northpower team were able to suspend 550 meters of cable under the bridge. Outdoor jobs: Look out for overhead lines when working with objects like ladders, aerials or scaffolding. Boating: Know the height of your mast and aerial before towing and look out for overhead lines when sailing. NORTHLAND FIELD DAYS Gardening: Don't plant trees directly under powerlines - they grow quickly and require trimming which can be costly if it's a safety risk. Camping: To protect family and friends from electric shock, remember to use an RCD (Residual Current Device).
