About
Mahitahi Hauora is Northland’s primary health entity (PHE), which replaced Manaia Health PHO and Te Tai Tokerau PHO from 1 July 2019. The PHE exists to support a primary healthcare system that sustains equitable, self-determined wellbeing and ensures every person has an opportunity to live a long and healthy life.
The launch of Mahitahi Hauora marks a big mind shift in primary health care across Northland. It is the result of a ground-breaking collaboration between General Practice, Māori Health Providers, Northland District Health Board, and Northland Iwi Leaders represented by Te Kahu o Taonui.
Mahitahi Hauora takes a broader focus to addressing the wider determinants of wellbeing, including social, economic, and environmental factors. To do this, the PHE collaborates with whānau, iwi, community, and health and social service providers, to identify and design the services and resources for each community.
