About
Bailey Road School was formed in 1966 on what was the old Penrose Farmhouse site. The school is well spread out on the property and is set back from Bailey Road which, in turn, is off the busy Penrose Road. The school, like the road that it is situated upon, was named after General James Bailey who was based in the area during the war years between the British settlers and Maori.
The school has great facilities, including spacious grounds, Whare Ahuru Mowai ( A calm sheltering place) which is our library and community space , attractive flexible learning spaces, a hall and a swimming pool.
The school has a tradition of strong ties and relationships with the wider community and as a result has a close association with:
the Royal New Zealand Navy’s frigate HMNZS Te Kaha,
the Maungarei Community Christian Trust,
The Ellerslie Rotary Club

These organisations assist the Board of Trustees and school leadership to ensure that improving student outcomes remains at the forefront of all that we do at Bailey Road School.
We endeavour to develop in children the knowledge, attitude and skills that will enable them to reach their full potential and achieve personal bests. Whānau and school partnership is key to this. We encourage whānau involvement and open communication between home (kāinga) and school (kura).
