helloworld TRAVEL THE TRAVEL PROFESSIONALS HOW TO CHOOSE.. EUROPEAN RIVER CRUISING VS OCEAN CRUISING As the year moves on we are now helping our customers start to plan their adventures for 2020 and one of the common questions is about the difference between a river cruise and an ocean cruise. Here are some key things to consider to help your decisions! Most European River Cruise ships vary from 120-200 passengers whereas the ocean cruise ships for the Mediterranean can go up to 3000 more depending on the company. There are some small ocean cruise ships in the luxury end of the market. River Cruise ships are all the same width to allow them to get through the many locks that you travel through whereas ocean cruises don't have these same restrictions which is where the variation of passenger numbers occur. River cruises travel through the inland ports often stopping right in the middle of the small villages and or cities, which allow you easy access. Depending on your cruise ship destinations you may find an hour or so on a bus to get you to your destination Rome is a great example of this where Port of Civitavecchia is 90 minutes from the city. If you love the variety of entertainment and activities onboard then ocean cruising fits the bill, due to the small size of river cruise ships this is quite limited to often just one or two entertainers and all your activities are generally done off the ship Ocean cruises provide you with a much broader range of cabin styles due to their size, whereas river cruises provide you with a more intimate experience but still beautifully appointed cabin options. The cost is probably the key factor, ocean cruises can be purchased at great value and vary due to the quality of the ship and size/experience offered. River Cruises due to their size and less passenger numbers are often significantly more expensive. Most River Cruise companies include all your shore excursions or at least one in each port, ocean cruises often require you to purchase your excursions separately. The end result is that your personal preferences will dictate which works best for you, whether that is the destinations you choose, the cost or the offerings on-board. Whatever you decide both offer an amazing way to visit Europe. Vera Says: There are some really great deals with APT and Travel Marvel for River Cruising in 2020, even some Fly Free.
