www.haurakiplains.school.nz "I can, I matter, I belong" The start of the school year can be a challenging time, especially for Year 9s starting college To help new students adjust to college life and mentor them as they progress through their secondary years, all students are placed into River groups, a small group of around 14 students who will stay together, mentored by their River Guide, for their time at college The River Guide is the 'go to' person, as students pursue academic and career pathways and participate in the opportunities college has to offer. At River time, students are encouraged to develop those important life skills, which often sit outside the formal classroom. Setting goals, managing time and priorities, social skills, budgeting, putting together a career plan and applying for a job are all part of River time.
