www.haurakiplains.school.nz The Lodge when old becomes new T HA K With the formal closing of the Ngatea branch of the Masonic Lodge, the preference was that the building would go to a community project. With this in mind, the Haurakian Charitable Trust, set about to purchase the building for the purposes of a performing arts centre for Hauraki Plains College. U Y The building itself is one of the oldest on the Plains, having been opened in 1923. The establishment of The Lodge as it is now called for dance and drama was the result of a community collaboration between the Haurakian Trust, the local Masonic Lodge and the Hauraki Plains College Board of Trustees. It is now used daily by over 100 students and demonstrates the Board of Trustees vision for HPC to be More Than a School. More A recent grant from One Foundation has enabled the Than A School transformation of the interior of The Lodge.
