ADVERTISEMENT Meet our Post-Anaesthetic Care Unit team Introducing our Franklin Hospital Post-Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) team. We are the faces you wake up to after your surgery/pro- cedure- it is tricky to see our smiles these days but we promise they are there! Our recovery nurses are highly skilled in acute post-surgical care and pain management. PACU has two stages-when you arrive in "First Stage PACU there is one nurse dedicated to your care. Your safety and comfort are our highest priority, and we work closely alongside the surgical and anaesthetic teams to ensure you receive best practice care during your recovery. While our nurses are constantly monitoring your vital signs and do perform frequent assessments, such as for pain and surgical wound sites, we endeavor to keep our PACU environment as peaceful and relax. ing as possible. Once you have recovered adequately from your anaes thetic or sedation, any pain is well controlled and your vital signs are stable, you will be transferred to either the ward or Second Stage PACU. In Second Stage you will be able to get dressed and continue to rest in one of our comfortable lazy boy armchairs. Most patients are allowed to eat and drink at this point, with a variety of hot and cold drink options available along with delicious snacks provided fresh daily by our local Caterpillar cafe. We are able to cater for a wide vari- ety of dietary requirements - please discuss with our pre-admission team prior to the day or surgery, or the admissions team on arrival to ensure we can have this ready for you after your procedure. Our Second Stage nurses will facilitate your discharge in consultation with you, any family/whanau you wish to have involved and your surgical and anaesthetic teams. They will provide you with detailed post-proce- dure instructions both verbally and in writing regard.
