Simon O'Connor MP for Tamaki: December Update living in general-people are feeling the pinch. Despite this, the resolute nature of those in our electorate and our community spirit has shone through. Merry Christmas! It has been another huge year and as we move towards Christmas and the summer holidays, can I wish you and your families an enjoyable, relaxing, and prosperous new year. There is no doubt that the past year has been full-on for everyone. As I have moved around the electorate, it is clear that everyone is doing it hard in different ways. From those affected by crime and ram raids, to the cost of doing business, or the cost of ADVERTISEMENT While I spend much time as your local MP in parliament, I spend every other moment here in our electorate, and my home. Whether it be visiting our locals schools, retirement villages, service groups like Rotary or Kiwanis - I am struck by people's generosity and willingness to help one POLICE another. I have spent many hours visiting our local businesses and talking to locals on the streets, in our wonderful parks, or at my various public meetings. The struggles aside, they all wish to do their best by their family, friends, and community. I am grateful for all these meetings and conversations - the laughs and sometimes tears, the advice and guidance. All of this helps me represent you locally and in parliament. I am proud to see a number of projects I have championed move towards completion, including the shared pathway from Glen Innes to Tamaki Drive and the new security cameras at Achilles Point. I held a morning tea event for over fifty of our local Justices of the Peace as a thank you for their service, and am involved in regular meetings with the likes of our senior citizens where I get to engage and hear what matters most to them. Authorised by Simon O'Connor MP for Tamaki 16 Goldio Street, St Hellers. Funded by Parliamentary Service There are also the hundreds of locals I meet with and assist around their personal issues from Immigration to ACC, housing to needing access life-saving health treatment. I value doing all I can to help and to get resolutions for these people. Across my various shadow Ministries, I also seek to make improvements. While my job is in many ways to challenge government, it is also to ensure we develop good policy to help all New Zealanders and to push back against ideas which divide and harm our nation. Once again, my thanks for all your support this year and with every best wish to you and your families as we approach the summer break. See you in 2023!
