For others, it can also be stressful and can create vulnerability. The Right2BSafe Project is a Primary Prevention Project to raise awareness about sexual abuse and offers simple, helpful, hopeful messages around protecting children from sexual abuse. In New Zealand 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 6 boys will have experienced some form of sexual abuse before the age of 16. This can have serious and long term impacts on the physical, mental and spiritual well being of survivors. Woman are 4.9% of offenders with the remaining offenders being males. Stranger danger is 7.1% 87.8% are offenders who are mainly related to,known and trusted by the victim and their family. 10% are males of the same age or, slightly older. There is a lot we can do to stop the abuse from happening, and if it is happening, it's about breaking the silence. Over the next month the Hauraki Herald will be running messages around how to keep kids safer from sexual abuse.
