ORIENTATION EVENING FOR YEAR 7s IN 2022 June 17th at 7.00pm Henderson Intermediate School Hall Update 2021 The 2021 year got underway with, because of significant roll growth and lack of classroom spaces, a modernisation of an older block creating 5 wonderful new rooms. A further 2 relocatable classes are now also being installed on the School site. Plans are also now underway for a multiple story block to give the School another 6 classrooms by 2023. Looking at what's been going on at HIS so far.. SCHOOL ATHLETICS is always a lot of fun! * This is always a wonderful day of participation by students, a time when the School House Chants ring out across the Seld as students win various different events." Director of Sports, Kieran Patterson said. Every student got to try their hand at a variety of different events where they got to run, jump and throw. After School activities began with students keen to do ORIENTEERING. Every Monday after School a van full of students headed out to take part in competitive Orienteering with students from a number of other West Auckland Intermediate and Secondary Schools. "At the time this got underway students wore in their Maths programme using compasses, so this opportunity was extremely popular. This gave students the chance to actually use their new found knowledge and skills around compass reading!" Teacher Tristan Wliams said. SCIENCE IS ALWAYS GREAT IN THE LAB. This is a great learning time for students. This year the Science Programme got underway with students looking close up through a microscope, at DNA. * Students love using the microscopes. The aim of our specialist Science Programme is to have students become familiar with science equipment and to grow science vocab, preparation for College" Science Specialist teacher Andrea Manu said. ENGAGEMENT WITH PARENTS is a priority goal for HIS in 2021. Term One ended with a massive turnout of parents at the Pacific Celebration Evening. * The hall was full, at least 350 parents attended this wonderful celebration night. A survey completed by these parents provided the school with good feedback. This year, HIS has introduced a special new role called the PACIFIC LIAISON MANAGER. This is to help encourage and support these families to engage with their child's teacher." Pacific Liaison Manager Dawn Hauraki said. Being visual and showing leadership in the local community is something that the school really works on with students. Head Boy. Neironi Stevens, recently was a guest speaker at the launch of the new resource from Plunket. STUDENT LEADERSHIP IS ENCOURAGED and celebrated at HIS. Recent news about the lack of beds for babies at Starship prompted a wonderful fundraising by students to help contribute to this worthy cause. The School raised $1600.00 which they presented to Kirsty Robinson who came to the school assembly. * Students love being involved in things that are part of their community. This recent fundraiser is very typical of the sorts of things that students do here to show community care and kindness." Deputy Principal Debbie Wylde added.
