Do you qualify for some help paying your rates? We know it can be tough for some people to pay their rates. If you're on a low income or get a Working for Families tax credit, you might be able to get help from us or the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) to cover some of your rates or water rates. Applications for support paying your 1 July 2019 to 30 June 2020 rates close on 30 June 2020. So if you think you might qualify, now's a good time to get your application in. Low income homeowners Families with high water-use getting Working for Families tax credits You could qualify for a DIA rates rebate subsidy of up to S640 if you: Pay residential rates and were living in your property on 1 July 2019 and Have a total gross household income for the tax year ending 31 March 2019 that is less than $39.000. [You might also qualify for a partial rebate if you earn up to $43,000 if you have dependants or your property's rates are highl. We offer a water rates remission to provide support to vulnerable households. You could qualify if you get the tax credit and: Pay water rates as a property owner or tenant and Have two or more dependants (18 years or younger) living at your property and Have total water charges from 1 July 2019 to 30 April 2020 of more than $311. If you've applied for the DIA rebate since 1 July 2019 there is no need to apply again. You'll need to include proof of your income (before tax) for the year ending 31 March 2019. (If your only income is Government Super you don't need to include this). If you're completing a paper form, bring or post it to us by Tuesday 30 June. You'll need to bring or include a copy of your Working for Families tax credit summary for the tax year ending 31 March 2020. You can email the form too by 30 June, including your tax credit summary. If you have been financially impacted by COVID-19 and need help, you can work with us to come up with an agreed plan to defer rates due between 1 March and 30 June 2020.
