Stewart Island/Rakiura Visitor Levy Bylaw (Revision 2, 2022) - the bylaw also came into force on 22 June 2022 with the exception of the increase in levy quantum which will not take effect until 1 October 2023. The new policy and bylaw will be available on Council's website from 30 June 2022. Copies of the bylaw and policy may be inspected and obtained free of charge at your local Council office. A key change is the increase in the amount of visitor levy collected. A staged approach will see it increasing to $10 in October 2023, and $15 in October 2025. Other changes include removing the requirement to consult via the annual plan process and allowing the option of multi-year funding for up to 30 years. Council would like to thank all the people who submitted and gave their views on the changes proposed to the visitor levy. For further information contact Jane Edwards at 0800 732 732.
