What's happening in your community, Waimakariri District Council seeks new Chief Executive Waimakariri District Council has started the hunt for a new Chief Executive The role has been vacant since the retirement of previous Chief Executive Jim Harland in 2022 due to ill health. The General Manager of Finance and Business Support, Jeff Millward, has been Acting Chief Executive since. Mayor Dan Gordon says. "We are looking for a leader who is focused, diligent, strategic, has a proven track record, and understands the value of community connection". Waimakariri is a high-growth district, which emerged from the Canterbury earthquakes as one of the most popular residential destinations in the Canterbury region. Significant growth has occurred since and is forecast to continue. The Council was awarded a second AA rating from the Local Government Excellence Programme independent reviewers CouncilMARK- it is one of two Councils out of 33 nationwide to achieve this honour. Standard and Poor's recently confirmed the Council would maintain its AA/A-1 credit rating. "There are great opportunities in local government and Waimakariri District Council is a leader in the sector. We are looking to continue building a fantastic place to live in partnership with our community and are seeking a leader who can help deliver on this vision. "The Council has already appointed a panel of Councillors who have been working through the process. As part of this we have selected recruitment agency Sheffield South Island to help with the process. Advertising for the role commences today. Monday 13 March and closes Sunday 2 April Following this, shortlisted candidates will be interviewed with the successful candidate hopefully appointed by mid-May. Jeff Millward has agreed to remain as Acting Chief Executive throughout this time. Roading Updates There are a number of roadworks going on around the District. Please take care in these areas, follow directions and we thank you for your patience during this busy season. Contractors started resealing between 23 and 91 Revells Road on Monday 13 March. This a continuation of repairs carried out in late 2022 and should take 4-6 weeks to complete, depending on the weather. Revells Road will be closed and northbound traffic will detour via SH1 at Pa Road with southbound traffic detouring via Bramleys Road Residents access will be maintained. On Monday 13 March contractors started work replacing the culvert under White Street, next to WAIMAKARIRI DISTRICT COUNCIL Dudley Park. The new culvert will be able to pass larger stormwater flows and is part of upgrades under the stormwater management strategy White Street will be closed between Wiltshire Court and Geddis Street for part of the upgrade. Residents access will be maintained. The work should be completed by 28 April Work on the Butchers Road bridge is continuing. The road closure will remain in place, with expected completion by the end of March Pedestrian and cyclist access will be restricted during construction. Work is continuing on the construction of a right-tum bay from Skewbridge Road into Mulcocks Road Stop/go will be required at various stages of the project and will be done between the hours of 8am and 3pm.
