We'd love for you to come and join us for the official re-launch on Saturday 20 May 10am-5pm There will be live music, face painting and giveaways Come on down to see what we've done and rediscover all the awesome businesses on the new look Good Street Emergency Mobile Alert Test NZ Civil Defence will be testing the Emergency Mobile Alert (EMA) system on Sunday 28 May, between 6-7pm The alert will be broadcast from cell towers across New Zealand to all capable phones. So, you don't need to download an app or subscribe to a service to receive it In a real-life emergency situation, an alert may be sent to target areas affected by serious hazards. If you get an alert, stop, read the message, and take it seriously. It will tell you what the emergency is and what to do. It will also tell you which agency sent the message and if needed, where to go for more information. Emergency Mobile Alerts are not meant to replace other emergency alerts or the need to take action after natural warnings. Don't wait for an official warning if you feel your life is in danger. Take immediate action Find out more about Emergency Mobile Alerts getready govt.nz/en/prepared/stay-informed emergency-mobile-alert Civil Defence Volunteer Team Exercise Waimakariri Civil Defence Emergency Management will be hosting a mock Alpine Fault emergency management exercise in the Sovereign Palms area based out of Kalapol North School on Saturday 20 May Trained volunteers from NZRT12, the District Welfare Team and Sector Post teams will be practicing how to set up and operate a Community Emergency Hub and a Civil Defence Centre (CDC), as well as conducting some field operations Teams will be visiting some houses in the neighbourhood to simulate conducting needs assessments This is also an opportunity for the community to come and see what happens during an emergency event. The public is invited to come along to Kalapol North School anytime between 9-11am, and either watch or get involved by role playing as evacuees for our volunteers. If you have any questions or would prefer that our teams not visit your property, please contact the Council at 0800 965 468 or email civildefence@wmk.govt.nu. Quarry Hearing Postponed The Hearing Commissioners have adjoumed the hearing for the Woodstock Quarries Limited quarry and landfill proposal Woodstock Quarries Limited has submitted resource consent applications to Environment Canterbury (ECan) and Waimakariri District Council The Hearing Commissioners have adjoumed the hearing due to commence next week on Tuesday 16 May through to Friday 19 May and continuing on Monday 22 May to Wednesday 24 May 2023 WAIMAKARIRI DISTRICT COUNCIL The hearing has been adjourned to allow changes to the proposal by the applicant to be assessed and enable submitters to consider and respond to the changes. The hearing will now be held Monday 3 July to Wednesday 5 July, Friday 7 July and continue on Monday 17 July through to Wednesday 19 July 2023.
