Chisnallwood Intermediate School CHISNALLWOOD INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL An innovative school rich in resources and opportunities Kia ora koutou, BLUE SKIES Dealing with Omicron has provided many challenges, but our staff and students have dealt with those challenges very well. am thankful for my amazing staff who have put the wellbeing of our tamariki at the forefront. I also am very proud of our tamariki who have truly lived our school values in term 1. Our mission statement "Challenge the margins of time, and explore what is beyond" provides the context for what we expect from our students in terms of their learning. Throughout the school we embrace this ethos each and every day. Our learning programmes continue to be innovative and exciting. Term 2 will be wonderful as we get to provide the many, many opportunities that our students so richly deserve. We have transitioned our year 7 students into the Chisnallwood family well. Part of this transition was all year 7 students doing team building activities at Blue Skies and Top team. Our year 7 students have embraced the opportunities that exist so far and that has been pleasing. Part of the transition includes teaching our core values; respect, relationships, responsibilities and resilience (4Rs) in everything we do. Students get a wonderful technology experience during their two years at Chisnallwood. This includes Robotronics, a combination of robotics, mechatronics and electronics. This has proven to be a highly successful and popular subject. Our Art programme and Art extension options continue to prove popular also. Together with food technology, hard materials and digital technology. we are fortunate to be able to deliver an outstanding technology programme for our students. As everyone in the community will know, our music programme continues to function at an excellent standard. We have many different music groups, catering to a wide variety of needs. We hope to be performing more in the community as the year evolves. Recently we had African drumming for all students which was very popular. The range of sports we cater for is unbelievable, 19 different codes at last count. An extra dimension to our sports programme is our sports development course, for elite athletes. This is a programme that really enhances the students' outcomes. Winter sports trials will commence as soon as Omicron slows down. I look forward to spending time supporting students during the winter months at various sporting events. I am really excited to lead our shared vision during the rest of 2022. I look forward to continuing to work with such an excellent teaching staff as we unpack great learning opportunities for our This term we have had our Year 7 tamariki head to Blue Skies to take part in some team building activities and to push themselves out of their comfort zones! Here are some photos from Water and Air houses. AFRICAN DRUMMING In week 6 we had two marvellous African drummers, Koffie Fugah and Agbeko Desouza come in and run African Drumming classes for the school. Every class had an opportunity to have a session with them learning a series of grooves, dance moves, calls and response songs from Ghana culminating in a class performance of their newly learnt beats. It was a highly enjoyable week for all those involved! We were so lucky that we were able to offer this opportunity in these strange times. CHISSY WATERPOLO Chisnallwood Waterpolo started their season this term at Jellie Park The Green, Red and Orange teams have represented the school superbly and have had some great success.
